Adult Female
An incredible specimen here. This particular variety of City Snake is very common, but this would be considered the picture perfect example of this species.
City Snakes at the 30th Ave Station, Astoria, Queens
Here we can see that City Snakes are able to adapt to a wide range of environments. Because the tracks of the N and Q line are dangerous to humans and predators, City Snakes have a relatively safe place in which to build nests and breed.

Times Square/42nd St Station
Saw this one leaving the Subway. Many smaller City Snakes find themselves trampled by humans who don't realize they are there.
Location: Astoria, Queens
This specimen has flattened itself to appear less noticeable to potential predators. It is always important to give City Snakes plenty of space so they don't feel threatened.

What are City Snakes?
City Snakes are a native animal found all over New York City. They range in size, color, and behavior, and live in a variety of environments within the urban landscape.
This is a blog dedicated to cataloging these creatures and their ecosystem.
There are dozens, if not hundreds of species and subspecies. I aim to take snapshots of City Snakes wherever I might find them. I hope to raise awareness of these endangered animals and their native habitat.
